Soldering 101

August 07, 2010 ~ 10 am - 2 pm

Description

Well, you asked for it!!!  After having this workshop in December 2009 I have had many requests to have it again...soon! Whether you love soldering or hate soldering here are several techniques that everyone should know how to do.  If you are a beginner at soldering or you have soldered your buns off you may not have done any of the items listed in this workshop.

Have you ever wanted to solder that one jump ring on your bracelet and don’t know how?  Or wondered what kind of flame to  use when soldering  posts to your beautifully designed earring?  Or how about  soldering a pin catch and joint to a brooch back?  Genevieve will also show you how to disassemble cuff links and solder them.  As well as reassembling the components.    After Genevieve demonstrates each technique you will be given a chance at soldering your own items.  This workshop is for the beginning student and the more experienced student.

Keep in mind that this will be a mixec group of students, experienced with the torch and some with no knowledge at all, so soldering time will be limited.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be considerate when signing up for the workshop.  By this I mean please signup two weeks prior to the workshop date as there are tools and materials with each workshop that have to be ordered in advance.

Fee: $75.00

Materials Fee: $15.00

If you want to solder on sterling silver please bring your own sheet to practice on or even a project that is in progress.  Otherwise, jump rings, pin catches, pin joints, ear posts will be supplied along with solder for practice.

Deposit of $45.00 required at sign up, balance due at class.

Enameling with Transparents

August 14, 2010 ~ 10 am - 2 pm

Description

This workshop will be a follow up with students from the Etching workshop held on July 31 and/or  students interested in learning how to prepare and use transparent lead free enamels.  All projects need to be ready to enamel as time will  not permit the student to cut out projects during workshop time.

We will start with enamel techniques such as surface preparation, the cleaning process of transparents, wet packing and dry sifting.

The transparent enamels work well on the etched surfaces that you should have finished during the July 31 workshop or if you have previously etched pieces/items.

Students are encouraged to bring note taking materials and are requested to bring their own hand tools, dental tools to aid in the wet pack process,  00 or 000 sable brushes, an Optivisor if needed.  You are asked to bring a mask that is dust proof, which is available from the hardware store.  (Make sure that it is a mask labeled for dry wall work.)

PLEASE!!!!  Sign up three weeks prior to the date of this workshop to ensure that items will be on hand for you at the time of the workshop.

THE DEPOSIT GIVEN DURING THE SIGNUP PROCESS IS A NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT DUE TO THE COST OF MATERIALS BEING PURCHASED TO SET UP.

Fee: $100.00

Materials Fee: $30.00

Each student will receive 6 pre-sifted/cleaned transparent enamels .

A limited variety of etched pieces will be available for purchase, for the workshop, if you have not taken the prior etching workshop.  These etched pieces are not include in the workshop fee.
